My Philosophy
Together we will work deeply and collaboratively to help us uncover ways of being that no longer fit your life. I lead with the foremost belief that kindness, curiosity, and a supportive environment can help us face and reshape difficult experiences. I deeply believe that a positive helping relationship can be a meaningful source of change in a turbulent life. In our work, you will re-learn to use your inherent sense of wellness, empowerment, intuition, and self-awareness as the tools that can take you to a place of healing and enduring stability. I lean deeply on the values of honesty, complexity, depth, and humor.
I am experienced in talk and play therapies. I am bilingual in English and Russian.
About Me
Welcome to my page. My name is Dr. Elaina Vasserman-Stokes. I am a child and adult psychotherapist, a psychoanalyst,, a clinical supervisor, a professor, a research scientist, and a yogi. In my career I have had the privilege of working with people of different ages, cultures, races, genders, and sexual identities. I have also practiced in a wide variety of settings — college campuses, non-profit clinics, outpatient psychiatric treatment centers, and hospitals. My approach can broadly be described as insight oriented and rooted in attachment and relational theories as well as self-psychology. My expertise rests on meaningful personal experiences and on continuing rigorous training and teaching. I enjoy working with both children and adults.
